Why this guy treats me differently when we're alone??

Like, when we're with our friends he's very funny, outgoing, touchy, etc., but when we we're alone he's quiet and it's kinda hard to have a conversation with him?

I really like him, but I don't know what to think...

I'm like that and I am a girl. I do better when there are a couple other people to fill those akward silences. If he's anything like me, you should definitely take over the conversation in the start. He is just shy, and it will take a minute for him to warm up. =]

or try to engage him in conversations that he knows a lot about (ie: cars, drinks, tv) then use that to break the ice.
