Whyyy do girls use multiple "Y's" in texts?

Before you jump to conclusions, I'm not talking about a teenage girl. I'm 21, she's a year older. she doesn't act immature or anything, but sometmes I'll get an 'okayyy' or 'reallyyyy'

lol it isn't just y's with me. it can be any other letter, just used for emphasis.

like if a friend insists on something i could be like 'fiineee'
we use it as a form of expression to portray our tone, because that usually doesn't come through in text as u know.

dont get turned off by it. she's just trying to express herself, unless she's doin it excessively, then thats a little unnecessary and yeah, annoying. =/

For emphasis, I think. It's imitating how it would sound if you spoke it. The difference between "really" and "reallyyyy" where you're dragging out the "y", might be to express sarcasm or surprise, depending on the context. It's informal, but I don't know if I'd call it childish/immature.

I see it as a way to express how someone would say it by voice - more drawn-out than usual, sometimes with a certain inflection.
