My friend (who is wise beyond her years), said she likes a guy to compliment her on three occasions:

If she's dressed down (no makeup, in sweatpants)
or
Dressed up.
And when she changes something.

She says girls are more leanient with new crushes as getting compliments from a crush always feels "fucking awesome"

So use compliments liberally at first and then sparingly, to fit those three occasions.

And when she asks how she looks in apparel, never say, "you're so perfect," always give your honest opinion, remembering to be charming and sweet, and make suggestions on how she can change it, even if you have no idea, she will appreciate your honesty.

It's flattering at first, but as I have experienced this before, and seen the after effects, I see things a bit differently. Through text, a compliment means nothing. It means you aren't willing to say it to her face. If you compliment her in person as well it's a different story and totally fine, but anyone who has been hurt by an insincere guy will question your sincerity and your motives.

In person is, better. I had a, guy that k was, crushing on he said I, was, pretty and he, complimented on a, shirt , he said that shirt looks, good on you. I couldn't stop smiling after that. that was, the first time a guy said I was, pretty , so it was, special. He is, still, spexial, too me.

Speaking from opinion. I have a boyfriend who complements me and I dont normally believe the compliments but when he's giving them me I feel special, it puts a smile on my face for a long time. It makes me feel like I'm worth more than I usually think. Girls love compliments whether it's face to face or in person.
