I know both guys and girls love receiving compliments but I complimented my coworker a lot regarding his knowledge and skills because I just looove people who know a lot of stuff and are very knowledgeable, especially when it comes to things I am interested in.
We both work in Cybersecurity and he posses knowledge I would like to have one day so I said that to him a lot and I wondered what would you have thought If you had female coworker (or any girl) admiring you?

What Girls & Guys Said

Everyone likes a compliment, and most guys appreciate them. Having said that, MOST guys (i. e., virtually all men who aren't in the top 5 or 10% of the attraction scale) ONLY get compliments on what they DO, never on their looks or their quality as a person (such as having good morals or values).
Most guys respond reasonably well to compliments about what they do, because we do get those occasionally and have experience handling them. But if a girl compliments a "normal" guy on his looks or his personal qualities, I've seen guys go beet red or stammer or even say stupid things because they have NO IDEA what to do - it's so unprecedented that they just don't know how to respond.
It's not that they don't appreciate the compliment - rather, it's that the compliment means so much to them that many guys just won't know how to handle it.
Realize that a lot of girls - especially in bigger cities where image and status are even more elevated priorities - tend to ONLY pursue top 10% men, so they may never experience this, because those top 10% men get compliments all the time. But such men have a completely different experience with women compared to most men.
They feel on top of the world
Guys love it.
