What do shy guys think when a girl compliments them?(they dont know this girl. she really likes the guy and went up to him)?

okay so i really like this guy. when i have crushes, i usually move on but with him, its soo difficult. he's a shy introverted guy so i knew i had to make the first move. i did. the thing is he doesn't know me. i went up to him and i said" excuse me" and he was like" yeah" and didn't make eye contact at all. he was waiting for the lift and started looking around and his phone. i called him attractive and started blushing and smiling and then i ran away cause people started coming in. i needed to complete the convo so i went up again to him and said i really like him. but he said he wasn't interested in dating right now cause he has exams:( should i try again? i mean he didn't exactly say no to me. what do u think?

The exams thing is an excuse, he just didn't find you attractive, I say "sorry, I'm concentrating on my studies".

i mean he really does have exams, he's kinda into studying too... besides not a lot of girls ask him out. idt anyone ever did cause he's shy. so i should just move on? but its so difficult:(
