When did you stop trusting men? At what age?

If you're referring to trusting that a guy who is my friend or boyfriend won't take advantage of me (in whatever way), I still haven't stopped trusting them. I like to be optimistic and see the best in people.

If you're referring to trusting that a man who I'm passing on the street won't hurt me, I lost that trust when I was about 12. Once I hit puberty, the catcalls started (how gross is that? grown men catcalling a 12 year old). And while I'm never rude to strange men, I never fully take my eye off of them until I'm a distance away. Even if they're friendly - especially if they're friendly. I hate having to think that way, but that's what I need to do to feel safe walking to my apartment at night.

Besides my dad kinda sorta, I would say it started going down when I was 13 or 14. In my teens I kept getting these experiences where it was getting worse and worse. Now I'm 18 but eversince maybe 15 or 16, I ask myself if I even want a boyfriend now or anything like that. I've been having times on and off where I just say "ok. I need to be done with boys and go from bisexual to lesbian and not even talking to boys." I've always been better and felt better with girls and everything too.

I really never have stopped trusting men or others in general. Trust is something that is earned along with respect in the first place. A person should prove themself trustworthy to be trusted. Without that knowledge you don't have trust in the first place. Once earned the person either continues their trustworthiness or breaches the trust, starting off at ground zero once more.

i wore my heart on my sleeve and was very optimistic about relationships and open about my feelings until a guy i loved for 2 years ripped my heart out, stomped on it, and only handed 3/4 of it back to me when i was 20. fucked me up pretty bad. working on my trust but my security level in my current relationship is at like 0 because i am just extremely insecure with guys now.

If you can't trust others, it's only because the view you have about yourself. It's not so easy for a person who reconize that they are untrustworthy, and so can't believe that other people arn't the same way. However, when a person values someone's self worth, and truly loves them unconditionally, trust is not an issue. But when someone, talks about a person behind their back, spreads all kind of gossip about them, mocks them every chance they get, spits on them, torments them, hates them, lies to them, and doesn't value their worth as a human being, that person is nothing more than the devil.

wow uhhh okay. I would hope most women wouldn't stop trusting us. I mean no one has ever asked me when did you stop trusting women... never. I mean there are SOME who I might not trust but I don't hold that against the whole population of women. I know a lot of great women out there who I'd trust just fine. Then again this is about men (and I feel more directed towards the women of GaG). I just wanted to add my 2 cents even though I don't know what good it will do.

I questioned anyone's trust at age 12.
I stopped trusting anyone at age 14, after my first break up I hated boys.
At age 16, I started regaining trust.
At age 18, I couldn't trust anyone again due to the person I trust the most fucked me off. At the same age I slowly regained trust.
At age 20, I only trust one person whole heartly.

The quicker people learn not to give others the benefit of the doubt, the sooner they will spare themselves hurt feelings. Only ever put as much effort into a person as they put into you. If you go based off of that, you'll realize most people aren't worth your time.

I don't trust women anymore than men. Trust is something that is earned not given. And I personally don't categorize trust with gender, if I trust you then I trust you if I don't then I don't. I have met very untrustworthy women equally to men.

I'm 39, and I still trust men. There will always be good men who lie on occasion, and untrustworthy ones who lie all the time. But that's a human condition that's as old as time, and often self-preserving. It's not just a gender defect.
