Girls, Why are women obsessed with cheating (in media)?

Specificly why does it seem that in all media that is female centric (women are the target audience) is their so much cheating. Its in books, tv shows and movies. My friends girlfriend made him watch some for lack of a better term "chick flick", where the woman cheats on her husband and then the viewer was expected to sympathize with her instead of her husband who's only wrong doing was getting caught up in work, being a father and husband and didn't pamper her as much as she seemed to want. While I didn't watch the movie myself I know that "stupid crazy love" also had the main charcter get cheated on by his wife who was completely unapologetic about it (this is why I could never bring myself to watch it) and is about him having to woo her back into loving him stead of a story about how horrible this woman was to him. So my question is why do women seem to love this sort of thing? Don't you think its disrespectful to your significant others?

It's a movie. It's not real, that's like saying how can people watch action movies when it depicts such violence. It's disrespectful to the police or something.

And just so you know, women watch chick flicks for two reasons:
1. Ryan Gosling or hot male actor shirtless and proclaiming his love onscreen.
2. The fashion whether it be through clothes or apartment decor.

Arguable one of the most iconic chic flicks is Breakfast at Tiffanys. It's iconic not because of the subject matter or plot (i mean Holly is basically a gold digger) but because Audrey Hepburn looks absolutely amazing and effortlessly chic. I mean one of the defining features of a lot of chic flicks is a fashion montage.

I just don't understand it. If the gender roles where reversed women whould be incensed. It would be untolerable and shure as hell would not be played off like the female lead deserved it. Frankly the thought of people cheating makes me physicaly ill (literally) I don't see men asking there girlfriends to watch this kind of thing with them. It just seems really selfish and disrespecful. I'm glad someone thinks the same way though, so I and I imagine your boyfriend appreciate the curtesy.

Some people might like it because men get the same kind of media approach and it deels good to get some payback. Listen to how disrespectful rap songs are and how some men are unapologetic about that. The media always finds a way to make bullshit sound reasonable.

Rap music, not music. I listen to most genres of music from blues and rock, to heavy metal and seal. None of these have those themes. That is a specific nitch, which is listened to by women just as frequently as men. And I do agree it is disrespectful which is why I only listen to underground rap where they don't talk about that kind of thing. Well some blues are about a woman cheating on the man but its not a common theme. It is however in books, movies and shows geared towards woman, it is something that seems almost exclusively so and women seem to enjoy it.

Umm Stupid Crazy Love is written by a man (Dan Fogelman). Most people who have the top jobs in media are men. Its most likey a caused by men who think this is what women want to see without understanding how we actually think.

But the target audience is women and they do watch these kinds of movies, shows etc. that was one example where the women cheats and then the man learns "his" lesson and suggests that their will be a happy ending. While it may have been written by a man its target audience was in fact women. This was but one example as I stated my friends girlfriend made hime watch one of these movies and he finally had to stop watching it was so disrespectful of men. You will find these things in most femalecentric movies and it seems to be exclusively women who actively watch these things (I don't know any man who would watch any of these types of movies), their is also a show on about a women who traveled back in time and almost immediatley goes and has sex with the first man she meets despite the fact that she is married.(apparently unphased by that fact and the fact she was thrown back in time) written by a woman. Then you have the love triangle where the woman leads two men on (cheating on both).

In all scenarios its women who are consuming the product thus making it a profitable endevor ensuring it continues existing. You may not personally be interested in this "genre" but that does not change the fact that it is almost entirely driven by women.

Obviousley not, what where you trying to say? I wasn't asking about who makes these movies/shows/books. I was asking about why it is almost entirely consumed by women. It seemed to me you where stating that it isn't, yet it is fairley apparent that it is. You don't generally hear guys talking about drama films that involve a man being cheated on and humiliated unless they were made to watch it by their significant other. At least I have never heard of this. That was what my question was about. Could you explain to me what you where saying?

Cheating is very common in real life so art imitates life. You seem to be overlooking the new phenomenon where guys brag about having side chicks and all the media where the man has the other woman

I do know that this is the case but it does not figure as prominitly in male oriented media as it does in female oriented media. I would be hard press to find this situation in any movie I own (its alot) or that I have seen. I am not saying it doesn't happen or am claiming men don't cheat but women do, rather it seems that women seem to be fixated on it when it comes to there media and entertainment. That isn't to say there are not issues with male oriented mediums (the ugly nerdy guy getting the hot girl for instances) but it seems cheating does not figure nearly as prominently in them.

I haven't seen movies where men get props for cheating, but its in a lot of music and on TV. All the time men have no remorse for the "side chick" stuff and sometimes seem really proud of it.

@TheNewJanie lets be specific, its in a lot of a very specific kind of music. It is not in any of the music I listen to and I listen to many many diffrent genres. Further I don't think its really fair to take that and apply it to the general male population if it is in a very specific nitch, one of which is also consumed by women.(My friends girlfriend listens to that crap and he makes fun of her for it all the time). Besides that doesn't really answer my question, why is this in almost all female centered/consumed media? Also I have never seen a show where a man cheats on the woman and is viewed as anything but a jerk. Granted I do not watch drama's but it does seem that things geared towards women have this as a theme.

First of all, I dont think its fair that you assume all girls even give a shit about the media and that you put us in the same category as your random friends girlfriend. If you want clarification, NO, girls dont condone cheating, we dont KNOW why its all over the media, we didn't make the movies, some of us dont even watch them, were just people, were not some large group of cheating whores.

@TheNewJanie I didn't make an assumption, they make what people buy, that is the reality of it. I also did not put you into a catagorie, I noticed a trend and hoped that women could give me insight as to why that is happening, it doesn't mean that they all condone it or agree with it. It is something that is primarily consumed by women and would hope they could explain this to me. Also I did not state that women where ". . . a large group of cheating whores." I don't know where you got that idea at, I was referring to media that is it. I don't know why you have decided that this is a personal attack on women but you seem to have some kind of emotional issues surrounding the topic. That wasn't an insult it was just observation, why do you feel like it was an attack?
