Why do women romanticize cheating? Have you ever noticed some of the biggest chick flicks are where the woman cheats?

Titanic, The Notebook, The bridges of Madison County. All the women cheat and create a romantic love story out of it.

The marriage in Titanic was arranged, not Rose’s choice. The Notebook marriage was more of a marriage she thought she needed to take when she thought her first love abandoned her, with her parents purposely hiding his letters to convince her he didn’t care. In both of these cases, control was taken away from the woman in regards to her romantic choices and by the end of the movie she gains it back with this new love interest. In both of those cases, she is taking control of a life she hasn’t been able to control and that is a huge part of why those movies are so appealing to women.


I’ve admittedly never seen the bridges of Madison County so I can’t comment on that but I’m willing to bet it’s a similar case where she married for whatever societal reason and not because she really wanted to. I

You're excusing behavior. Thank you for illustrating my point. Yes Rose's mom was also wanting her to marry for MONEY and prestige. I wouldn't call it arranged. But it was planned. Either way, Titanic was not the "slave" ship Rose claimed it was. And she jumped at the chance to ball Jack.

You realize she and Jack met because she was thinking of killing herself originally, right? This woman was not happy, you may not agree with her or any of these women choosing personal happiness over their marriages but considering you’re a man and clearly lack the historical context of “every generation of woman before me HAD to marry a man to survive in society and it was rarely done so for love” but if you want to understand the appeal of this specific subgenre of romance, then maybe you should brush up.

Who wrote Titanic? A man by the name of James Cameron.

It seems you may have your facts wrong because if these men surely cherished the sanctity of marriage, they wouldn't have written such stories in which the female characters cheat. Second, you seem to neglect that cheating takes two. Where is your ire for the male characters who are cheating in these films as well? They were aware that these women were married. Third, box office numbers aren't built on female tickets alone. There are a lot of men who love these films. It's important to remember they are fiction, not real life. If I see a murder movie, and I think what a great film, does that mean because I like it, or the acting, or the drama, that now I want to murder in real life....no...because fiction.

The husband was taking care of the kids in the bridges of Madison County
Who did Noah cheat with? He was single.

I think you're seeing what you want to see in these movies which is my whole point of the question.

This is based on something you are saying, not reality for every woman. I'm a woman, I don't romanticize cheating. I didn't see The Notebook for 6 years, and when I did, I hated it. Literally wrote a post about how I didn't understand why so many people enjoyed the film. Again, to my point, just because you see a movie, doesn't mean you support what you are seeing otherwise, according to Netflix stats, a whole bunch of people would be psychopathic killers at this point!

If this doesn't represent you then fine, I'm not talking about you. But clearly there's a Market for this. Clearly it's enjoyed by women, clearly all these women in these movies cheated. I'm not SAYING anything. I'm simply observing society through these movies and posing the question.

I've only seen titanic and if i remember correctly she had an arranged marriage with some duche in name only and for appearance’s sake. i dont believe its cheating when she hadn't even kissed the duche. She despised him. Also thats a fictional relationship. Indeed girls who cheat suck end of story. I dont think titanic falls under this category though.

Personally, I do not claim that, cheating is wrong point blank. I know that these movies might give you the Idea but there's also different movies of the opposite sex cheating, Anyhow, this does not mean that ALL WOMEN are like that... I think you should rephrase it into "SOME WOMEN" not just "WOMEN" putting ALL women on a list that never cheated, never even thought of cheating and are loyal as they can be.
