Should you shake a girl's hand when you first meet?

There is this girl in my class that has 300 people so she probably has never seen me before. I've noticed that she sits at the same spot every time so I'm going to sit next to her next time.
I'm still not sure how I should do this but I'm thinking of saying "so what's your name?" and then when she tells me her name I will shake her hand and say my name simultaneously. Does this sound good?

For the situation you described, I usually take a girl's hand for introduction, as opposed to a formal handshake. A formal handshake is too, well, formal. It makes a better impression with a girl if you connect with her more casually and personally.
What I mean by taking a girl's hand is this:

When she does this, I give her fingers a gentle but firm squeeze without the 'shaking' gesture of a handshake. I usually do this while holding eye contact and repeating her name before releasing her (unless she pulls away).

How you take her hand will make a lasting impression on her, and a firm, assertive hand hold is a very strong statement that a lot of guys overlook. It also breaks the dreaded 'touch barrier' early on and shows her you aren't afraid to connect with her.

If I remember correctly, a man never offers his hand first. If the two of you shake hands, the woman offers her's first.

If it was me, i'd sit next to her and say, "Hi. I'm William." That puts the ball in her court on whether she introduces herself or not. Then take it from there.

No I wouldn't shake her hand because it's a pretty informal situation, I would just ask her name, then say like nice to meet you, don't forget to smile

Yeah thtmat sounds a little awkward I would say something like "hey I see you sitting here every class and I thought I'd say hello"
