Why are guys overprotective?

Okay, so my new boyfriend is a little overprotective. At first I thought it was cute, when it was just things like "I don't want you to get hurt." But now it's moved on to questioning me about hanging out with my good guy friend... Why do guys get this way?

Yes, it's nice when your guy is protecting you. But then some take it a step further and start grilling you like a cheeseburger and wanting to know who you were with, when are you getting home, what were you doing, blah blah... Then they get possessive/jealous and accuse of seeing other guys. THOSE guys are abusers. They are trying to control you. So be aware of the red flags! If this is your guy - this could be very bad for you. Insecure guys can be extremely jealous and if he's not believing that your guy friend is just a "FRIEND" and won't let you talk to him... etc. etc.. you need to get out of this relationship. And if a guy EVER puts his hands on you - tell your parents PRONTO. Good luck, Sweetie.

That sounds like he's moving closer to being too controlling and even abusive. That's a red flag right there. None of my ex boyfriends ever did that. It's not overprotectiveness at all, and it's not normal. You have to set clear boundaries. He sounds jealous and insecure.

In today's society its not surprising

There are more girls now that would just quit a relationship for another guy

And guys that would steal another guy's girlfriend

He just doesn't want you to leave him

He could also think the guy is better looking/ has better qualities than himself

How would you feel if he started hanging out with a girl who you thought

Was prettier/funnier/smarter/etc and they were REALLY good friends

You would probably feel the same way

I'd wager it's just another one of those useless traits we kept from our caveman ancestors, who generally had to take an active role in the protection of their woman.

jealous, insecure type.He feels if another guy can seem to make you happier than himself that means he's not good enough. Has he had gfs in the past? If he hasn't much then maybe he thinks being in a relationship means your worlds have to rotate around each other.

But yes I agree with the girls- if he asks you about every single little thing and demands control, get out. Don't let him change your life to satisfy his jealous needs.
