It is instinctive for men who give a damn to protect women and children, even if they are not our own. This is the single biggest reason(other than a small amount of chauvanism) why most militaries will not employ women on the battlefront. The logic is that if the women fight, who's there to protect besides the kids?
I was at a football game when the home team won in overtime. Some idiot college rats just had to walk past in front of the visiting fans jawing and celebrating when a visiting fan pushed down one of those fools. An average looking woman was sitting next to me(whom I automatically assumed would reject me if I asked her) and I shielded myself between her and the potential fight. I didn't even think of my actions until it was over, wondering why the hell did I do that. Just how it is.
Know something foolish? There are a LOT of women who will not date short men because they want to feel protected by a bigger, taller man despite the fact a man, regardless of his size, will protect her one way or the other. Heard about that theater shooting? You can bet the short men did their best to protect others as bravely as the taller men.

Genders should be equal if you believe what they say. So, girls should be able to protect themselves. Not saying girls would fight but there should be a diplomatic solution.
Girls are less physically strong than guys, so he's compensating in an area you lack.guys do this when they care about a girl or just instinctively.and some don't have that in them at all and would be the first to hurt a girl
Its a societal thing that is taught to a lot of guys from a young age to protect women. It can be automatic and almost instinctual rather than out of obligation.

Genetics, I supposed. We're meant to protect things. That's what men did, from time immemorial. Sometimes, it just chooses to manifest itself in "weirder" situations, like protecting a random girl at a concert.
never heard of male protective instinct?
