Why do girls like being called "my girl" by their boyfriends?

for me it's just like that's my man. i like having a guy make it known that i'm his girl. for example when i met my boyfriends family he introduced me as his girl (name) and it just felt good like ooOO i'm his girl

I like to do it to indicate she is the girl I like to take care off...
sometimes it feels possesive, so I use a few things: mygirl, girl, sweety, hun and some other ones in my native language...

Some girls don't like it or care for it. Personally, I feel that when a girl hears this it could just resonate with her as a intimate or affectionate gesture. Just like a hug, kiss, etc.

It's possessive, which could easily become a bad thing, but in normal context usually isn't. I also think calling boyfriends "my guy/man/etc" works just as well.
