Everybody farts. I try not to fart when other people are around, but it's never completely avoidable.
Farting around a significant other just shows you're comfortable with each other and accept that they love you for your faults as well as your good points.

Farting in people's presence isn't civilized for either sex; it's a bodily function that expels waste- if you do it in front of people, you make their environment like an outhouse, and thus liken their worth to trash, and even fecal matter. I guess that's quite an exaggeration, but you get the idea.
