How can I break up with a clingy boyfriend? I tried but failed

Its just been 1 month but he talks about marriage, kids, future all the time. We don't have fun, I don't laugh. All he talks about is how lucky he is to have me and that I am amazing and that he loves me. I just miss laughing ! I feel smothered and caged.

I would rather be with a confident man who gives me space and has fun when we're together.

So I decided to break up with this guy (I am his first girlfriend, he's 22) and he creates a big big scene!

Cries, say he'll die... says he will never trust girls now.. asks me with teary eyes "how could you hurt me like dis?" I couldn't take it and I said I'm sorry.

But I am really suffocating and I want to break up without all the drama and guilt because its not my fault!

So any ideas or tips? I am absolutely helpless right now.

I'll set the scene. A friend of mine was living with a girl when he came to the conclusion that he didn't want to spend the rest of his life with her. Sometimes it's best to have the clingy person break it off with you. One of her biggest rules was never to get involved with someone who did drugs. So he asked me what to do...

She came home from work and immediately noticed something was missing. She stood in the livingroom for a good 20 minutes and actually went digging for some party pics (like guests over their house). She pointed out that two twin vases were missing. He didn't even bother to wipe the mantle on the fireplace where they once stood. They were his and told her that one broke and he gave the other to a friend to find a replacement. My friend acted really mellow when he talked to her.

A few days go by and she comes home again. Again, my friend was mellow and some end tables were missing. This time, he dodged her question. He said perhaps they were robbed. A few days go by and the TV was missing. He claimed that it was on the fritz and it was in for repairs. Very nice set actually, I enjoyed watching TV on it. :D

Then the computer, and microwave were next to go. This kept up until he purposely took another appliance out when she came home. He took a trip with his family on vacation when someone told his girl that he was in rehab for drugs. They had a long talk when he got back and she broke up with him. He waited like a week before getting his stuff from my place, just in case she forgot something.

Its in the way you explain it. Just let him know that you are young and not ready for marriage, etc and you need your space. Explain to him clearly, that because you are his first Girlfriend he does not understand how things work and that he is moving too fast.

You aren't responsible for his feeling. Break up with him and let him deal with. You should not be guilted in to staying with somebody.

Once he gets over you, he'll probably be a lot less clingly and things will work out for the better with his future GF.
