I think that if you're single hundred percent no question as long as you are truly friends with the person then you don't mind go ahead and let them. If you're taken then assess whether or not that person would upset your significant other to sit on your lap. For example do you have a history? If not then it's probably okay. It's just as long as you're comfortable and if someone else is going to get upset about it as long as they're comfortable. It's a situation by situation kind of thing.

My friends wouldn’t need permission, it’s fine and it’s not harming anyone.
If a friend were just standing from no seats left, then I’d ask him if he’d like to sit and then I’d sit on his lap

For the first question, I would be okay with it, I would joke around with him since thats kinda how i am anyways lol. For the second one, I don't know.. i would ask him if he wants to share my seat or ask if he wants to sit down with me and share my seat in the first place because he might just want to stand. And yeah i've had friends and my younger sister sit on my lap. The reason why my sis had to sit on my lap the last time is because we were in a trolly at a theme park and it started raianing real hard and i was getting soaking wet lol So i scooted over and had my sister sit on my lap lol :) I hope you have a wonderful day!

Without permission would be a little weird but it would depend on how close we are etc... and if he'd laugh about it or something I'd be okay with it.

2) I would ask him if he wants to sit down and help him find a chair or something. If he asks if he can sit on my lap or if I want to sit on his that's fine.

Usually it's my sister who sits on my lap or vice versa haha
