Girls, isn't this a good indicator you are not in the mood to chat (Read below) ?

Okay, so i always thought when girls start giving small answers or just smiles like:
"Hahah"
"Yep lol"
*Smiley*
"Nope haha"

And stuff like that, it was a good sign for me that she's not in the mood to talk and she tries to make the conversation come to an end.
Example below, just screenshotted that a few minutes ago:

But then, i noticed something else since a while now:

-If i point it out, as in "hey looks like you are not in the mood to talk, cya later" they deny it very hard and say stuff like "No? What makes you think that?"

-If i leave the conversation and dont say anything for many hours or 1-2 days, they write back to me "Hey, why are you not texting me anymore? Whats wrong"

So my question is, is my initial assumption wrong?
Does it have no meaning if a girl texts like that?
Or does it sometimes mean something, and sometimes not.
Girls, tell me about yourself and what you think in this regard.

Call me old fashion but this is why I love it when guys just pick up the phone and call me once or if they live close they arrange time to hang out. That's how I can tell they are really interested. It's so easy to misunderstand text messages. It's cool to use here and there but in order to have an authentic connection with someone, it's more effective to see them face to face or at least with a voice/video call.

I don't blame you for the initial assumption. It probably feels like a one-sided conversation. When people give short replies I get that same vibe so usually I leave them be and let them come to me when they're ready to talk. Occasionally I'll let them know I'm think of them. I have been in situations where I gave short replies when I didn't want to talk with someone for whatever reason. However it didn't always mean that. Sometimes I was processing what they were saying so I'd leave a short reply and that would eventually follow up with a longer reply or a question. If they're asking you questions about yourself or sharing details about themselves in almost paragraphs, I feel like they must be content connecting with you in that moment and they also trust you. If it's just short replies and the conversation isn't really getting deep, they may not be feelin it. Helps to ask open-ended questions, but make sure you're asking because you are genuinely interested.

It really depends on who it is. If they dont usually text like that then there could be something wrong but again its just assumptions. Otherwise if they says everything is okay then take it as it is. There's not much you can figure out unless they make it clear.

I think you are dead on! She wasn't interested but as many (make and female) do, once you back off they give chase. You have found a very effective technique. It works most of the time. Learn it and use it. You'll be amazed how well it works.

So i am right after all, but i get these reactions after backing off (that make me doubt my assumption) because i back off at the right moment and that makes them "crawl" back to me?

Yes it makes sense and yes! It's a fine dance with courtship. You have to learn to push and pull at the right time. You'll get more intuitive at it as you do it. When they pull back (text short replies, physically distance themselves, stay quiet when around and any of these are new and don't have an otherwise obvious cause) you pull back too just like you did. Occupy yourself doing other things. They will notice what's missing ( you aren't texting, you aren't trying to touch them, you aren't trying to conversate but doing something else enjoyable instead) and they'll usually come back because they will miss that from you.

Yeah thats precisely what i have been doing the entire time. My question is though, is that always the case? Because i have experienced a few things, like i said above, that make me question this.
Sometimes i point it out to a girl and she says "No, why? Thats just how i talk".
So even though what you and me are saying here, do you think there are times where its not true. Where a girl can give short answers or just smileys, but STILL be in the mood to talk?

Oh yes definitely. My experience is that its usually that she's multitasking lol. Watching TV, doing something like her nails, or online on social media. I can always tell when my husband is on his game cause his texting changes lol. And he and I both get distracted when we are on our phone sometimes. I'll be like you didn't hear a word I said. He'll be like yeah but you do it too. Touché lol. But she could also just normally not say much or maybe not know what to say.

Well thats good to hear. But i think im still going to stick to my behaviour. Like a safe bet. To make sure i dont become one of "those guys" who dont stop talking when they really should.
I just felt better about it when i thought a girl giving me short answers always means i should back off.
But now, there is a chance i back off from a conversation, even though i really shouldn't.
Guess there is nothing i can do about that

Hmm I don’t know that I would personally try to read into that but let me try...

For me, it wouldn’t mean that I was not in the mood to chat, just maybe brought that part of the conversation to a close? I can see though where it might show that’s she’s done chatting unless she follows it with, “So, what are you up to?” Or something like that.

If she follows up with something like that, i read up on that immediately and its a green light for me she is indeed fine to continue talking with me.

But when i read up on the signs, and leave the conversation, and nothing comes back from her for some time, its always a clear indication for me that i was right to back off.

But it seems like, that isn't always the case? And there are other reasons why she might give me short answers

For what it’s worth, I like to keep talking all day or as long as both are enjoying it. If I get busy, I’ll tell the person I will text them later and vice versa. If I wanted to stop talking at that point, I would say so and pick it back up again later. It’s easier to be straightforward than to try to read signs.

It’s possible she may still want to talk but has not come up with another point of conversation. It can be difficult through text, as conversation doesn’t flow as freely.

Oh yeah i noticed that a few times. Where a girl would stop replying, but the second i fire up the conversation with something decent again, she's fully involved in the conversation again.

I just try to determine how often it is because of logical reasons, and how often it is because she's not in the mood to talk, which was initially what i thought. That thats always the case.
I know now it is NOT always the case. But i wonder how many times i have left a conversation because i interpreted her short answers as "dont wanna talk". Thats a bad thing, exspecially if its a girl you are getting to know for dating and stuff

Well im the same as you in this regard. I can talk a shit ton. Much much more than most people can handle.
I dont think i was ever in a situation where i wanted to end a conversation by giving short answers or just smileys. Im just so extreme in this regard. I can write entire romans the entire day.

But speaking for other guys, a lot of times we are the ones who pursue a girl. I think we rarely ever are not in the mood to talk. When im single and im talking to a girl i asked out, im seriously always ready to talk with her, and im pretty sure that applies to most guys too, which is what you want to know.

Now, you experienced these short answers for guys, and i think the main reason for that, is to make sure we dont annoy the girl. Most guys think talking too much is too "girly" and that we should always give short and straight answers. If you are worried about "no in the mood to chat" with guys, then dont worry. Thats seriously very rarely the case

Like, some dude approached you, asked you out. You like him and you definetely want to meet up with him. Sooner or later, the girl suddenly starts giving these short word answers, or even just smileys.
I currently have a girlfriend and the girl above is just a friend. But this is a rather important topic for me when im single and talking to a girl i asked out and we are in the "getting to know each other " phase.
In this kinda situation, whenever a girl starts texting me like that, i immediately back off and know this is the right time to stop texting her for a while now.
So put yourself in this situation, as a girl. If you start texting like that, and you only give him answers, but dont follow up with anything by yourself, you most likely just dont want to text in that very moment , right?

i guess it is hard to put myself in those shoes haha i'm currently single & on a dating app trying to meet guys and i'm always actively engaged in the conversation. i don't ghost or try to manipulate the guy into leaving me alone. if i find myself not interested in the guy, i'm direct & say it's been lovely getting to know you but i'm not interested in continuing this further & i don't want to waste your time. i hate mind games & "subtle cues" over text & trying to decipher what every emoji or exclamation mark or whatever means or doesn't mean haha unfortunately not a lot of girls (and guys) are like that... so then here we all are asking each other what stuff means haha
