[Serious] Can we talk about birth control?

Anonymous
I’m in my twenties and I still haven’t been on birth control yet. Sex and everything around it isn’t something that is discussed in my family.

I never had a boyfriend and hookups are not my thing. I was never comfortable enough to go see my family doctor about birth control: she’s a professional but she’s a family friend and she’s not the best doctor in town let’s say — she has the habit to always prescribe the same medication so I don’t ‘’trust’’ her that much for something as important as hormonal drugs.

I have bad menstruation. I am always in such an intense pain that I can barely move for the first day at least. I have tried different things (teas, etc.) but it never seem to work effectively. I also have bad pimples but not acne (and not just when it’s my menstruation time).

All in all, I think birth control may help me a bit for my mentruation and I also think it would be a good time to start (for my sexual and overall health). I have read some scary stories. I also know you sometimes have to try a few different kinds/brands before finding the one that’s best suited for you, but honestly the negative symptoms affraid me.

So, what is/was your experience with birth control? Do you take pills? How about birth control shots?

Thank you all in advanced!
