When you see them you know it and feel it, undeniably.
A lot of people will laugh at the term "alpha", but this term is typically used by people that are more primal- who understand the mindset and the appeal of using said primal terms of which plays into the subordinate and dominate roles (doesn't appeal to everyone, just the primal). I am primal. The lifestyle/mindset is natural to me and I feel that it resonates with my desires and views of the world. So I speak from experience within this "world".
For me to define an "alpha" male, is to think of the men that I have encountered- typically I know they are alpha when I felt that they were more dominate than myself. For me, as a primal, it's very hard to ignore someone with the dominate "energy". In females and in males. They are typically very sure of themselves, not easily emotionally effected by others (because they are in-touch with their emotions and know that no one can actually hurt them without their consent), strong morals that they define for themselves (not following the pack, leading it, creating it- manifesting). NOW not all "alpha" males are the same. Not all are well mannered, some are more physical than others, as the others are more mentally dominate. The "alpha" is a mindset, a confidence with the ability to lead in their passions- where their strengths are (doesn't ensure that it was well guided, some alphas are more alpha than others, even). An alpha can feel stronger with a "pack/tribe/family" or stronger when alone. They play the field in many different ways, different types of strengths. You just feel it, they stand out. They are born to lead because it's something they created within themselves, with their internal drive. No one gave it to them. They saw the role and they took it. They face reality and take responsibility of themselves so much that they can reach out and take care to guide others. They know what they want, they go get what they want. They let their failures roll off their shoulder. The power within them is so magnetic, you can just feel it- even sometimes when they don't know it yet. Every "alpha" male has their issues. They are not perfect. It could be addictions of any kind, but it's because they usually have the world on their shoulders and not all alpha males have found a safety zone to express their emotions- typically found with a mature woman that they trust, respect and love- which is super complicated so addictions like sex, drugs, alcohol and physical violence are easier to find to cope with.
Some alphas do start out when they are super young, immature and sloppy. But the drive within them is there, they just need guidance from fellow alphas. Immature females picking on them is bound to happen because this is reality- it actually helps the alpha male to grow some tough skin where he can turn it around and start to turn the teasing into sparking chemistry instead (when he understands his sexuality, and how to get what he wants). A primal will see this them for what they are and respect all levels of it- by guiding, helping, sharing.
I am an alpha in my field of strengths, I know exactly what I want and how to get it- I go get it. I speak like it, I know it and so I say it. When people are deemed cocky/arrogant, it's by hypocrites that are all bark and no bite. We all have our days when we strut and other days when we bite our tongue. No one else defines us, people just speak their own insecurities. As an alpha we put people in their places when we stand up for ourselves by speaking our truth, for our teams and for what we believe in. Standing up for ourselves is natural for everyone, the difference between an alpha and a snarky beta is that alphas take action and we help guide others more than we even have to bite back. We treat ourselves like royalty, no matter the state (poor, etc) we are in because we believe in ourselves. There is no shame in that. We try and share it.

There is no such thing as alpha male among humans. This is a term solely applying for the animal kingdom but not to the human race. It has been misused to apply to humans as well.
The reason being that:
Anyone calling himself an alpha male is a person that achieves his goals by stepping on others and demeaning weaker ones, pushing them aside regardless of feelings or harm they may cause.
A so-called alpha male would be the person to avoid at all cost, mainly for a girl. This is the guy that will never accept no for an answer and will impose his will on the girl for any sexual deviance, regardless whether the girl is hurt physically or mentally as long as he has it his way.
So-called alpha males are also mentally more unstable and unpredictable in terms of how much harm they may cause with their arrogance.
What Girls Said
I think they are hot. They tend to be assertive, sexy and confident. As long as they aren't putting down others, disrespectful, arrogant and entitled I don't have a problem with them.
I like them if they are white collar professionals. Even then, they need to be kind, considerate and caring toward me or there won't be a second date.
If I ever heard a man or woman refer to themselves as an "Alpha" I wouldn't be able to roll my eyes far back enough.
Cringy. They think they're superior and badass. But a lot come off as arrogant, sexist assholes. Like that one 12 year old on the playground who pushes others around cause he's taller
Anything other than an alpha is scum in my book. Broken angry little beta males trying to bring everyone else down to their shit stained level with them. Avoid them like the dirt they way
Alpha males don't exist amongst humans and most of the guys who call themselves alpha are in reality pretty toxic. I haven't met one self proclaimed alpha who didn't have some weird confidence issue.
I couldn't say anything bad about them, my opinion there's nothing wrong with them at all.
That there's a national shortage of aloha males out there. Maybe I'm wrong but I midd a man's man.
So all other men you know tell you that you're their alpha? I somehow doubt it. It seems every guy now claims to be the alpha
Cocky and pretty arrogant... if you are actually a alpha male you don’t strut around with the title like you are royalty
