Everyone's definition of alpha female is different, so I'll break my answer down point by point.
Alpha female can mean high self-confidence in interactions with other people. I am attracted to that quality.
Alpha female can mean she is not afraid to be the person in charge in a professional setting. I am attracted to that quality.
However, if alpha female means *must* be in charge, then I am not attracted to that quality. I have no use for ego-driven power hungry people of *either* gender.
Alpha female can mean being aggressive in her quest to advance professionally. I am attracted to that quality, provided that she is not one to indiscriminately mow over everyone else to get there, and that if something does not work out she is a good sport about it, and simply goes for the next opportunity. Basically, win with grace and lose with dignity, since both are a part of life. There is nothing wrong, and in fact everything right, about showing her best side and building herself up to she that she is the best PERSON for that position, opportunity, whatever, as long as she does not have to knock everyone else down in the process.
Alpha female can mean knowing what she wants from a relationship and having standards. I am attracted to that quality, because if she is attracted to me then she appreciates those qualities in me.
Alpha female can mean not being submissive in a relationship to the point where the man has total control. I am attracted to that quality, as I feel that she also has a vote in things. If I exclusively make all of the decisions, then there is a lot about her that I will never get to know.
Alpha female can mean dominant in a relationship. I am not attracted to that quality. Refer to above: I like us both to have equal say with neither one having dominance overall. She will be better at some things and I will be better at others, and therefore balance is achieved.
If she has a dominant streak in bed that's kind of a turn on. Although "alpha female" seems a pretty vague term. Some women act all-powerful coz they're actually insecure (just as some men do). Some women act like "lady bosses" because they fear its the only way to get men to respect them (it's not).
In my mind, I interpret the term as you use it to mean "socially dominant female"-- she's the one who leads a group of girls when out at the club, they look to her to control the conversation, and when a guy approaches them, they check to see how she reacts before mirroring her reaction.
I'm going to use the term "dominant" because I think the term alpha is for canines.
The answer depends on the guy and his personality. There is really only room for one dominant person in a romantic relationship. Two dominant people generally will not get along well. I have a very dominant personality and although I don't mind women with similar personalities in everyday life, I would never want to be in a relationship with one. I think dominant women can do fine in a relationship but they will generally need to find a more submissive guy, which is less common in men than in women.
What exactly is your definition of an alpha female? Cuz I did a take on this that's pretty revealing. Take-charge women that make things happen, but when it comes to 'we don't need no stinkin' men' then all bets are off.

Could not care less. In some ways, It might even be a mild turn off, especially if she thinks she is, but she isn't really an alpha. That level of attitude can get annoying when there is little to back it up

I like alpha females, but they still need other important things for me to click with them. Similar views, interests, humor; Kind, intelligent, open-minded, etc.
A driven, purposeful woman who is independent is the exact kind of woman who is the greatest attraction. But not a self-centred Or arrogant human, she must be deeply caring and genuine.
There's no such thing, unless you're talking of Queen Bees. All the "alpha females" i have known are just very insecure women who don't know how to be women or get alone with them.

I tend to get along better with "alpha" women. I think it is just their assertive/confident persona. I don't gel well with meek sorts as ai have a stronger personality myself.
The type of men who like alpha females are the ones that would expect her to approach them first because they tend to be the shyer kind. And my guess is an alpha woman would gel best with such a man.

@sierzant Men can like all kinds of women and same vice versa. Did I say anything offensive to someone? My understanding is that alphas men/women are dominant in the decision making for the relationship, which is why two alphas won't make a very good pair (celebrity break ups being a good example).
We will probably clash unless her alpha rules over certain things and my alpha rules over certain things so we can share power and have a most harmonious relationship with one another.
