Girls: Is okay to get offended by being called Ditzy?

I was talking to a friend in real life, and she never told me she had a problem with me calling her ditzy while I was with her. Then a week later, she goes silent and afterwards she finally tells me that she thinks I called her "ditzy" to bully her and degrade her, when I meant it to be endearing and cute. Is this normal? How can I be more clear with my intentions?

Ditzy = silly or scatterbrained.

Now, how don't you understand that no one likes to be called that way? What is so difficult to understand that it is an insult and you better believe me that I would also be offended to be insulted.

It is one thing to call a kid like that because he/she does not grasp the real meaning of that word but a totally different one to call an adult that has the knowledge of the deep meaning and its implication.

I think ditzy is quite cute to be honest. Its not like you called her stupid or an idiot. Just like a your weird in a cute bubbly sort of way if that makes sense. Tho i kind if understand how it could be misinterpreted

I guess she got sensitive about it, or feels it's not okay for you to call her like that anymore.
For example, my girlfriend calls herself a "pervert" sometimes, but if I do she gets offended.

Those are things that depend on the person you're talking to, some friends you can call "a bitch" and both laugh it off but some you'll call them "a sweet potato" and they'll get offended
