Is saying “Ditto” rude?

Well, actually my boyfriend is probably the most poetic person I've ever known. He has helped me communicate more, but lately, he says "Ditto" whenever I express my feelings. Should I be offended by this word?

There is widely accepted evidence that the word “Di**o” has its roots deep within white patriarchy. The word was originally used to signal troops on the confederate side of the civil war and, after the south lost the war, then used it like a dog-whistle to summon up white nationalists that then formed the klan. Once the klan became dominant in the late 19th century, the word ditto was picked up by other white nationalists in Germany. It was used as uniting the German peoples in a national front to resist the French and the Russians in WWI but then a young socialist leader in Germany picked up the word to unite his movement in the early 1920s after the defeat of Germany in WWI by the anti-racists. The word Di**o saw another resurgence in WWII when German socialists used the word again as a dog whistle to summon up more racists to help them fight the anti-racists. Once they lost WWII, its use dwindled until the resurgence in 2016 when America elected its first openly racist president with Russia’s help. This time, though, they used more sophisticated methods to dog whistle the other racists by using a hand gesture like this one 👌🏻. Luckily, we were saved by this when our first anti-racist president was elected in 2020 and the racists tried to overthrow the democracy on January 6. Luckily, Dylan Mulvaney stepped in and single-handedly stopped the theft of democracy from the Capitol and was honored by our anti-racist president.

So that’s why I never use the word Di**o because it’s pro-slavery, pro-white supremacy, pro-patriarchy, pro-insurrectionist, and transphobic.

The origin of the word ditto is the italian word detto, meaning "the same". It implies that the person can empathize/understands/feels the same about something/also likes something, and just "me too" stuff in general.

I don't know. I watched my mother-in-law get offended just because my wife's friend's boyfriend said "dude" while speaking to her. He's a beach bum stoner guy... she should expect that from him. But somehow she takes offense to people just being themselves I guess.

No, I kinda like it. But it can be rude if you use it after the other did a whole touching speech and you reply with 'Ditto', it might be the same as 'ok' at that point.

I'm not even sure how a person could imply a sarcastic tone to a single word, usually sarcasm requires a specific inflection of the voice at specific points within a sentence to convey it, most often extending a word in an otherwise normal paced sentence, for example: "Ok, suuuuuuurrre you did."

But people don't use ditto in a sentence, they just say "Ditto." by itself, and I can't really see a person just saying "diiiiiitto" without just sounding like a pokemon instead of sounding sarcastic.
