Why are even adult women so obsessed with social media?

I get it. There's literally the psychological design, that the web developers have implemented. Those likes and shares and follows were designed to be addictive to keep it's users active for as long as possible and therefore those companies like Facebook and Google profit from selling user data to whoever asks for it.

Aren't adult women having more important matters on their minds such as education, career, work, skills, pursuing hobbies and interests, explore the world, cook/bake, be good at something, check their health with the doctors, fitness, cutting out toxic friends & family members and live independently from them?

Even adult women place such a huge importance on social media. We used to live just fine without any social media at all before around 2005. But I see, that adult women handle it the same way as do the teenage girls. When will women understand, that social media is not that super important in life?
It is no surprise to me, that women are pretty much naturally information gatherers but when someone like me protects their own privacy, then this man does not exist.

These women are the same women, who would rather sit at home on instagram instead of going out, talk or date.

I even heard of a confession of a girl I know. She said women tend to stalk guys on social media to get as much information about him (without his knowledge) as possible to form an image of what he is like and whether to associate with him. No data = he's not real.

Social media is cancer, a privacy nightmare and a source of depression.
They sometimes ask me to create an account on these platforms.
I sternly refuse it. I'm not into any of it. My private life is exactly that - it's private. I don't want it to be publicly available. I will tell women about me 1-on-1 when out on dates or via secure communication channels. But not on the publicly available internet.

Older people do it for the same reason that younger people do. Most people I know in their 60s and 70s use social media.

FB got popular among older people very early when FB was still getting started. It was the same reason that email got popular 15-20 years earlier. It allowed people to stay in touch with people they had lost touch with because of distance, or they lost touch because of apathy. People went their own way. They had families who were top priority. They moved. Whatever the reasons, they lost touch. Suddenly they were socializing with large numbers of people they hadn't seen in years.

As social media grew, the reasons people used it grew as well. They use it to meet new people, to find handymen or a dog groomer, to sell stuff, to schedule events, or whatever.

The big difference with age, is that older people are not as addicted to it as younger people.

Because (most) women like getting attention. It's like a mountain of coke for a drug addict. In the past they got the attention in other ways. Now you have armies of desperate guys giving them free attention and it's gone to these women's heads.

I have no idea, my mother like to use facebook but only cause she like to share video (she found on youtube like cute movie and such) and others cute pictures (animals or such) and my sister like to watch meme.
Personally I like to follow fashion, meme and food related stuff on instagram.
As for others people then it depend some like attention and others just do others stuff it's hard to categorize everyone but I would say in general it's cause their life are pretty boring (I only go on instagram when I'm bored which is quite rare so)

But to answer your question. Think a lot of girls seek validation too much from others and lack self-worth and they think they'll get it from people online and if it does it boosts there ego and it becomes addictive. Women like feel special and beautiful and if they weren't getting that else were they will usually turn to social media for it.

- I read using your brain in social interaction can decline brain disease
- Talking to people online helps fill the social void in my life which is caused by CoVid restrictions
- I believe I'm able to help people
- When I talk to others I get ideas for my book

Here's a funny story for ya.
Back in summer I went to the beaches. I asked some of my contacts if they want to join but there were almost no responses. The girls in particular weren't interested they said. OK, fine, no problem at all I said. Maybe next time or so.

The taxi driver asked me on the way there "You alone? Why?"
I told him the truth "They were not up for it. The girls however prefer to sit at home on their phones and on social media and here I am gonna enjoy my day on the sunny beach"
His response "Heh, yeah. This is an ongoing problem with social media. People take it too seriously"
