Why is there so much negativity around the image of black women?

I was just browsing through some questions on the site and encountered a few that dealt with race. One was asking which race did people find most attractive. A good amount of guys answered white or Hispanic, and then there were the guys who said black girls.

Every guy who said he preferred black women were bombarded by a million comments saying how stupid and crazy they are, and if the guys were white, that they were liars and secretly wanted white women.

The other guys who answered any other race but black, were agreed with and left pretty nice comments.

I don't understand why there is so much negativity around the image of black women, especially when it comes to love, attractiveness, and dating.

Is it because we are the opposite of what's considered the perfect woman? ie pale skin, super skinny, blond etc?

Do men find us intimidating? I've seen some pretty in your face black girls, but I see more classy black girls than ghetto ones.

Why do people feel the need to bash on black women any chance they get? We are people too you know; we may suck it up and act like it doesn't get to us, but that stuff really can beat someone down :(

So what gives? Why are black women hated so much?

Black women often portray themselves as the stereotypes are given and the ones who do not are overlooked; it's like that with almost every stereotype.

We notice the geeky, book nerd Asian, but overlook the Asian who is apart of a gang.

We notice the ghetto black woman, but overlook the civilized, educated black woman.

We notice the me no speaky English Hispanics, but overlook the Hispanics who busted their asses to become citizens and learn English.

We notice the white people shooting up schools and notice the successful white people.

We always notice negative before positive.

Honestly, I'm bi-racial, and I guess I look more black(perhaps) to white people and I get more attention from white guys than I do any other race. Maybe it's because I "act white" or something, but I do. So the answers on here do not necessarily reflect public opinion. A lot of the people on here have issues anyhow.

Black women aren't hated just the least wanted race of women in dating.

You can find someone unattractive without hating them.

Whenever I hear white, Hispanic or Asian men speak of WHY black women are least preferred, it almost always comes down to attitude and portrayal of black women, with a few exceptions being physical appearance. Most bring up the common stereotypes of being "ghetto, loud and obnoxious" which is something blacks as a whole have to move away from.

Nope plenty of non blond not skinny girls are attractive- look at Asians & Hispanics.

It's more about having a lean body & facial features.

Yea that's usually what I see too when the subject is brought up. Your right, too many blacks feed into our stereotypes and let skin color define who they are instead of just being people or who they really are. When some of us do, we are ridiculed for not being "black" or something along those lines by other blacks? I don't know, people have interesting ways of thinking.

yes, but hispanics and Asians look closer physically to whites than blacks, and fit more with the icon of skinny, light skin, long silky hair, etc...whereas black women are usually thicker, athletic build, dark skin and our sproofy hair. You see what I'm sayin, like the opposite.

I don't see that most issues the black community has about beauty is self inflicted.

Blacks have the biggest issue about skin color & hair.

I think that acting black ridicule is more of a trying to separate yourself from your ethnicity thing.

Yep and if that's what preferred- lean, light, long hair it doesn't mean they're intimidated or hating on blacks just that they don't find them attractive hence the negativity.

Yea, the self infliction is because we are constantly bombarded by negative things about our hair and skin, subliminaly or openely. For example, there's a huge issue with dark skinned blacks not liking light skinned blacks because that's what is portrayed as the " beautiful black women." Just like how blondes are seen as the prettiest in white culture, which causes brunettes to question who's more attractive; the women feel less appealing. I don't understand what you meant by your last point?

It's not negativity aimed at black women but just the fact that black women don't fit that standard of beauty.

second of all, don't worry about those dumb people.

first reason you shouldn't worry about it is this:

they are immature; anyone who would make fun of someone for liking anything, no matter what it may be, is just immature and hasn't yet realized that we don't get to choose what we like, we like what we like and that's it, we can't help it.

second reason is this:

those people are ignorant, so ignorant that they really think one race can be inferior to another.

and third of all, one of the main reason blacks are given this reputation is because of the media focusing on the bad more than the good. like the TV shows, maury, where 70% of guests are black women looking for a baby daddy. and shows like Jerry Spinger. where poor and ignorant people are portrayed as nothing more than that. and lots of those people happen to be black.

They're still black, or labled as such. You don't look at mixed girls and automaticaly think white, unless they are really fair skinned which is more rare. Plus when you google black celebrities, these are the one's who pop up, google white celebrities and I gurantee you won't see them.

No, but these women are seen as being black and labled as such. Besides that point, in the real world, there are several very beautiful full black women, but I think a lot of men avoid them because of the negativity created from stereotypes. Then when a black women comes along who doesn't act in the fashion she's expected, she's overlooked and kept in the negative category. What gives? Can people honestly not think for themselves?

I'm talking about the question I asked. I never said black women weren't beautiful, or any less beautiful than any other women. I wanted to know what the people on this site thinks causes the negative issues around black women? You were talking about the attraction factor, which was only a part of the question I asked, so I tried to steer you back to the original question. Which didn't work I guess.

Despite ignorence that does exist, I do believe even those who don't view black women as attractive will always make exceptions. People tend to follow what the media tells them is attractive, its more a less a case of whatever gets presented as the ideal WILL be the ideal. Many guys who say they do not find black girls attractive are generally not gonna not find rihanna, gabrielle union etc attractive. I like black women of all shades and natural hair aswell although that's rare to see
