Female friend called me pretty out of nowhere?

So me and y female friend were having dinner with mutual friends after dinner we went to the park. At the park we started to get into a conversation/debate then she randomly said I was pretty while we were both looking at each and making eye contact. I was thrown off by the comment because I never been called "pretty" before as a male. Is this a normal behavior?

I don’t find this normal. I have never called a male pretty. Cute, handsome, hot, etc…yes. But, never pretty. Maybe it is just me but that seems to apply more to girls and other girly type stuff.

Just like I’ve never been called handsome and would find that very strange.
