Why would a friend pick at my insecurities?

My good friend always seems to poke at my insecurities, she also one ups me to show how she’s better than me in any area I’m insecure about. For instance, if I’m insecure about my hair, she’ll talk about how beautiful her hair is compared to mine. She also said “I know you’re insecure about certain things.” If she knows they’re my insecurities, why would she always pick at them?

I had a similar "friend" in high school, only ever wanted to 1-up me, always asking about my test scores saying wow that test was so hard then saying he only got 97%. Same with everything sport friends hobbies. I never even liked him or hung out with him, but he would still pretend to be friends.

Always trying to downplay your achievements like "haha I guess that's kinda good" and give you the fake awkward smile, then goes on to talk about how he's almost got this really difficult thing down.

I wouldn't consider them a friend at all, they just want someone to boost their fragile ego.

Yeah I agree, I think your and my friend are just insecure so can’t stand to see their friends doing better than them
