Why do girls give guys false hope?

OK so this happened to me twice and it happened to a bunch of my friends. we ask a girl out or just happen to stumble on the subject of dating together and the girl says "oh we might be together you never know" or "you'll have to prove that you're not just a lazy guy" and then when we (the guys) try to show them or try to spark it and flirting with the girls (while they flirt back) they just end up saying something like "oh I'm dating this guy... it just kind of happened." I really don't understand why girls play with guys like that, can you girls answer why you do that? ( I understand not all of you do no offense)

I think the girls don't expect you to interpret what they're saying literally. They're just using a beat-around-the-bush way to say they're just not interested.

but how is it showing to a guy that you're not interested if you flirt a lot for like 2 weeks with the guy

who are you flirting with? you can't expect most teenage girls to be straightforward, esp. if they're shy.

we aren't flirting anymore because she said "it just happened I'm dating thi guy now" but she was my friend for a while and about 2 weeks ago SHE started to flirt with me and it just bugs me that she gets quiet for like 2 days and says that she's dating a guy now and it happened similarly with a different girl and it hapened to my friends too

Some girls do this and some guys do this. It's not just one gender it's a type of person.

i didn't mean to sound sexist but I've met a lot of girls who do this and its not just like in my area of living because I got some friends who live in different states and they get the same stuff

I know a lot of guys who do it and maybe 2 or 3 girls. It's because you're a guy, you would notice women doing something more than men and I would notice men and wouldn't in women.

It may be that they don't wanna actually date you or they just don't know what they want..
