Roommate frequently has loud sex. How to talk to her about it?

I’ve been friends with my roommate for a year, and she’s very passive. Her girlfriend is over all the time, and it’s starting to get really annoying. I don’t mind her girlfriend coming over/spending the night like 1-2 times a week, but she’s over here almost every other day. I have the basement as a room, so I don’t have a door - I have curtains in place of a door. And my roommate’s room is next to mine. I hear them having loud sex all the time. So I put in headphones and/or turn my tv all the way up, but I can still hear them. I sleep with my headphones in and sometimes their moaning wakes me up. I’m not sure what to do because if I talk to her about it, she’s going to think it’s a personal attack.

I feel like I’ve compromised enough on my end - if they’re too loud, I’ll either put in headphones, turn my tv up to the max, or sleep on the couch upstairs

It seems it already become a personal issue regardless and since you both live in the same house it sounds like you need to eventually talk to her about it. When she knows its an issue with you being so loud.
Then at least she is aware of the issue

I agree with a previous comment. You could applaud them. Sometimes that could embarrass them into quieting down. Turn their own actions against them. You could record the noise and play it back to them at a time when they were trying to study or sleep. You your imagination.
