Why is social anxiety so much more common in females?

Do you have a source for this? I don't know if what you said is true or not but here is something worth considering.

Society often pushes men to be bury their feelings deep down. Women do have this pressure to some extent too, but with respect to social anxiety, my experience tells me its more significant towards men. As a result, those men with social anxiety are encouraged to bury it deep down and try and put on a brave face, even though we should be encouraging them to express their feelings. Thus, it makes it seem like social anxiety is more common amongst females, as there is *generally* less pressure on them to conceal their feelings.

I don't necessarily doubt what you're saying, I was just wondering if you read somewhere that social anxiety is more common in females (and if you did and you remember where you read it, I'd love to read it to) or if its just something you have observed in the people around you.

Because they're told that having confidence is "wrong". That girls are supposed to "play coy", which then can cause social anxiety.

I wish more women were more confident with themselves. It would really improve their social anxiety

I'd say because women are more easily judged than men. Based off how we look, what we say etc. It makes it unnerving to be around others if we feel observed and judged.

I wouldn't think women have social anxiety. I would would men do more cause they cannot show too much emotion unless they are "under the influence"
