Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is a type of anxiety disorder characterized by intense fear, nervousness, or self-consciousness in social situations. While social anxiety can share some symptoms with other anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), they are not the same thing.
While people with SAD may experience symptoms such as excessive worry, restlessness, and difficulty concentrating, they may also experience specific symptoms related to social situations, such as fear of being judged or embarrassed in public, avoidance of social situations, and physical symptoms such as sweating, shaking, or trembling.
GAD, on the other hand, is characterized by excessive and persistent worry or anxiety about a wide range of everyday situations, rather than specifically social situations. People with GAD may experience symptoms such as restlessness, irritability, difficulty sleeping, and physical symptoms such as muscle tension or stomach problems.
It's important to note that anxiety disorders can present differently in different people, and symptoms can vary in severity and frequency. If you're experiencing symptoms of anxiety or social anxiety, it's important to seek support from a mental health professional who can provide an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan.
No social anxiety has to do with being nervous in any social setting while anxiety is more general meaning you could have anxiety in and out of social settings. It can happen and take place anywhere or over anything.
But they do have similar symptoms such as nervousness, panic attacks, etc.
Social anxiety is a type of anxiety.
