She said I miss you and then didn't respond?

To put it bluntly. She has mental health issues and her mood often fluctuates.

We were speaking for a while and I would say clearly liked one another. She then got a boyfriend and he made it clear to her to stop speaking to me. She gave me the warning of what he said and didn't speak since.

Few weeks ago, she messages me saying 'I miss you'. I just ask reply asking if she is okay and she says yeah all fine, asks how I am. I say fine and also ask what made you think of me? She didn't respond.

It puzzles me that she would message saying she misses me and doesn't progress the conversation further. Thoughts?
