I get more looks from girls when I don't make much of an effort? Is that normal?

I've noticed recently that when I go out without putting much effort into my appearance I get checked out by girls a lot more than when I go make an effort. I could go out without styling my hair or trimming my facial hair and I'd get way more looks than if I styled my hair and cleaned my facial hair up. Is this normal?
