Why do some girls like to embarrass their girlfriends when they're talking to guys that they like?

Today I was at a mall with my bestfriend and two of our other girl friends, we bumped into one of my guy friends. I introduced him to the girls and he was taken by one of the girls, which is great because I was going to play matchmaker anyway. So he pulled me to the side to ask if she had a man and I said no.

Long story short he told her that she looked pretty and liked her style (outfit). One of the other girls felt the need to say that she had a glow up, "she used to look dusty back in the day" and one other girl laughed like that was funny. She proceeded to say "thanks! those are my shoes" and tried to make a cute face. She even 'reminded' her that she left her bleached panties back at her place.

My bestfriend, the guy friend and I were just staring at each other confused because he didn't need to know that.

They are jealous, insecure girls who do this - they can't stand not being the center of attention for even just a second. It's really sad. You could confront her about it and ask her why she did that, or tell her sternly not to do that again. I'd probably just either stop hanging out with her or not invite her as often anymore, sometimes that's the only way this type of person can learn.

I confronted her when she and I were alone in the car after dropping her off. She insisted that she was joking around even after I told her that she didn't have to say those things. I let her know that if that's how she is then we (my bestfriend & I) can not be around her.

What's even more crazy is that she swears that her and the girl she was embarrassing are bestfriends. I have only known them for a couple of weeks.

Ah yes, the classic "it was just a joke, don't take it so seriously!" excuse. Funny how nobody except her enjoyed the joke, right? That type of girl is so infuriating. Wow, claiming to be besties after only knowing each other for a few weeks is a bit of a stretch as well, isn't it? Then again, maybe that's the dynamic she and the other girl have together in general.
