Can't gauge girl's interest. What I'm doing wrong?

I'm currently on a trip in which I meet cute girl. We talked a bit and she agreed to hangout with me for some sightseeing. I meet her today randomly at hallway and she told that if I want, I can meet her on the beach. I did just that but when I sat next to her on the beach, she seemed to show a very low interest with any conversation with me. She just give quiet, short answers, barely tilting her head in my direction. When my mate sat next to me at her and asked her some silly question, she looked at him and smilled. I left and wished her a good day as I felt that my presence is bothering her

I'm 6'3 feet tall and little chubby but I have a quite poor social skills. I could not really kept the conversation going and there was a lot of awkward pauses. What did I did wrong? Can I salvage this?

Well, this is a bit of a tough one. On the one hand, I would say she is not interested in you (sorry). On the other hand, I don't know why she would accept an invitation to do something or invite you to the beach. That doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense to me.

I am trying to place myself in her shoes. Now, I wouldn't ever accept an invitation from a stranger on vacation to do anything, so it is a bit tough, but if I did I wouldn't act like she has.

She could have just politely said no thanks and you both move on. The one thing I am wondering though is how you point out your social skills or lack thereof. Perhaps that is the biggest problem.

I keep going back to why she would invite you to the beach and then act disinterested. I'm wondering if the lack of conversation skills as you pointed out was the culprit behind her behaviour. Hard to say without more context.

If she just said she's not interested then I would not pursue her. If she doesn't want my company, then she had no one but herself to blame.

@RemainInLight I could not agree more. Sounds more like she is playing games than being genuine. I would have done the same. I would have politely declined and that is that. I don't know what her motive is.
