I'm not sure. It really depends on the circumstances leading up to this conversation. One of the worst things I've ever had to write was an email to my last girlfriend describing why I didn't want to be her friend after our breakup. There wasn't any malice or hatred, or emotional outburst in my writing; I simply stated the facts. I didn't write what I did because I was hurt; I wrote it because she genuinely believed we would be friends after the way she treated me. She was wrong, but I needed to tell her why that is.

He didn't feel deeper connection with you and that is what he is looking for. Or maybe he is lying to you and doesn't want to hurt you.
