Gay dudes probably don’t worry about you chasing them around and sniffing their asses the way you might a woman. Women have to worry about that. Women who work in hospitality get hounded by dudes. It’s literally their job to be nice, but men assume that they’re coming on to them. Now imagine a woman who doesn’t do it for a living just being a little bit nice to any random dude. Pile on gross misinformation about rape and sexual harassment and you have a formula for isolationism.
I’m quite certain it’s very similar to the reason straight dudes avoid gay dudes, generally. Can’t be too nice to one or he might fall in love with you! Hahaha! Heaven forbid he return a simple kind gesture and some idiot does think it’s a come on! I think straight guys need to hang out with gay guys MORE. Exactly because they compliment each other in earnest. We all need that kind of appreciation in our lives. When is the last time you got a genuine and direct compliment from a friend? It almost never happens to me. Compliments are very indirect, flat-out sideways or backhanded, or they come shrouded in jokes. Women get it. Gay men get it. Straight dudes are out here dying of hypothermia and refusing to hug each other for their very survival! Ell oh ell!
Accept their appreciation with grace, and appreciate them in return! What you have there is a blessing.

When they like you they shower you with them...
