Are all (or most) double standards and sexism in favor of women?

e. g., guy posts revealing/shirtless pics on dating sites: he's "creepy" or "just looking for sex"?

Girl posts revealing pics, she's "hot", "cute", etc?

Are men more honest than women? Or are they just both generally different?

Also, the common public generally appears to have different reactions for when a man or woman does (or doesn't do) something. So many double standards.

e. g. It's ok to make fun of men but not women, shaming his sexuality, his intentions, his clothing style, hair, "act like a man, look like a man", etc.

I think there's a lot of nuance to consider when comparing the sexes, or more specifically, how they interact with each other.

For the sake of conversation, I'd offer an agreeable definition- a double standard is a situation where both semesters can be present in, but can generally expect separate outcomes, with one being either extremely positive or extremely negative. With this broad generalization out of the way, we can apply it to some of the situations you cited.

• sexual or provocative posts: I think a lot of men favor imagery and other media for sexual gratification, while women seem to prefer text based gratification for self fulfillment (obviously there are outliers but we are being general). With that in mind, men's compliments of a woman's beauty below a thirst post represent a potential avenue for gratification in that moment for him. Women, on the other hand, aren't going to be nearly as receptive to a man's thirst post. Men don't seem to notice this dichotomy, as they seem to believe obvious muscles have the same effect as cleavage does on their brains. When women see this over and over again, they likely grow disgusted by it leading to the insults and ridicule. Is that a double standard? Perhaps, although I'd chalk it up more to a societal misunderstanding, as some men actually do find a woman interested enough in their thirst post that it remains to this day a viable option to get a woman's attention, if not a popular one.

• are women or men more honest? On this I would say it's 50/50. People lie often, for various reasons, even to themselves. Why they are lying should be the real crux of the matter, and that's strictly a situational thing. Insofar as public reactions, I think society has certain expectations that aren't always clearly represented and one must find them as they progress through life. What one person finds agreeable, others might object to. As I said before, it's very nuanced and I suppose in the courts of public opinion, there's no victimless crime. If the public standard benefits one sex above the other, but doesn't shame or punish the 'lower' sex of the situation as generally speaking, I wouldn't perceive of it as a double standard. To cite the example above, I personally find men posing topless to attract women to be silly. I do however enjoy women's chests. I am comfortable with said topless men being ridiculed by women, as they don't neccesarily HAVE to pose in such a manner but they're choosing to regardless. I won't partake in the ridicule myself, as I have no dog in the fight. However, I DO enjoy seeing a woman's chest, and I wouldn't object to it within reason. I won't partake in self gratification, and I won't compliment her on her particular attribute either; besides, that is an action she is choosing to partake in so subjecting herself to the public like that knowing the reaction makes it less desireable to me. Within the court of my opinion, there's not a double standard there, as both parties have a general idea what the reaction will be and both parties consent to said reaction by following through with their choice.

Sorry for rambling, but this was a very interesting personal debate I've had with myself! Bravo, good sir, for making me consider multiple points of view.

Mostly but not all.

However for almost all of human history men have been forced to be “tolerant” when women act unfair and/or bitchy due to the simple fact they are women.

This stereotypically comes up when men argue with women. Men usually argue to prove a point but not gain a so-called “victory” over the woman. Men are less likely to take being proven wrong about something personally. Hence we don’t mix emotion with logic.

However women stereotypically don’t fight fair. They often mix emotion with logic and try to use emotion as a weapon. They usually struggle to remove their personal feelings from a logical debate. It is rare for them to admit their wrong if they are factually proven incorrect in an argument.

Anyway men have always known this and we have tolerated it for many millennia. However with all this so called “equal rights” there are still many women who expect men to cave to their arguments. If they don’t they are quick to personal insults and/or name calling if the guy isn’t agreeing with their viewpoint.

I see it all the time on GAG. ESPECIALLY if the woman identifies as a leftist or worse a modern feminists. They are argue for the sake of arguing vs arguing to figure out the truth. They assume they already know the indisputable truth.

Honestly the only two I can think of that's in favour of men is men are studs if they sleep around and woman are sluts. (But the opposite is true too men are considered losers if virgins and women are either respected aka there is no issue for being a virgin).

The other is men as physically stronger, faster, have more stamina than females, whenever it gets dark I have a lot more anxiety about walking alone outside and pay a load of attention to passers by if there's a group of guys coming towards me I automatically check how much room there is on the pavement to pass them, if they've been drinking and loud/ boisterous I might even cross the road.

Hell I'm 26 and if I'm home and planning to go to the shops at night, dad would walk with me and same with his partner if it's dark out he would go with her. They both smoke and he won't let her go outside by herself at night time he'll ask her to wait and they'll both go out.

A woman can drive like an asshole on the road and cause an accident in the same way a man could and her insurance still won't go up as high as his will.

A woman can have sex with men on the job and never get in trouble or be reported for sexual inappropriateness, but a guy who even flirts with a female co-worker can be talking to HR the next minute.

Women who try to control and manipulate people through dark persuasion and bullying are seen as smart and clever, but men who do the same thing are thought of as narcissists or even sociopaths.

A woman who flirts with lots of guys or even sleeps with them is seen as able to be sexually effective and able to have sex whenever she wants, but a guy who flirts with lots of women or tries to have sex with them is seen as a player that women should be looking out for.

If a woman raises her voice at me in an argument in public, most people just think she's a loud, angry girlfriend and I'm pussy-whipped. If I raise my voice at her in public, people will stop and watch and think I'm an abusive boyfriend.

So yeah. Double standards are in favor of women.

I don't know I think numbers it's prolly pretty even rn. Like ya men are shamed for less sex, but women are shamed for more sex. ((Ofc not by everybody tho, like I don't get shamed for low body count bc I don't hang out w people who do that.))

You have people trust women around kids more, but you also have women expected to be around kids more. And men are distrusted, but are also not expected to do any of that work. Even w kids n courts, u have most women get custody, but that's bc men aren't expected to seek it. When they do seek it they get it more bc the bar is lower for them being a "good parent."

It's give and take. Bc balance is good, so imbalance hurts both sides. I haven't seen any benefit from sexism that doesn't come with just as big a drawback.
