Why is tiktok making me feel worse about my own looks?

I hate how superficial the app is to be honest. Every girl I see is either following a trend or fits what "society" considers attractive. I feel like comparing to the girls I see out there and then rethink what makes me look like the way I do.

Because that’s what society wants to see. They use filter, extreme photoshop and makeup with hair extension, fake nails and everything to please the audience. If you are on instagram, almost every girl there is a “model” You won’t find anyone unattractive, the worst is average looking, that’s about it. The truth is they don’t look like that in real life. I have been to many beaches/bars or places that these women often visit, none of them appear to look like how most of them look on their social media. It is so pathetic of them to do something like that just to make other women feel bad.

social media along with pop culture and entertainment is designed to show only attractive people whether hot guys or pretty girls because they "attract" audiences

only you have agency over your own thoughts and feelings

feeling inadequate is natural but ask yourself why. do you want to be attractive? what is the reason for being attractive? whom are you trying to be attractive for?

it's quite unfortunate a lot of young women try to look like Kim Kardashian or anyone woman of that similar type because attractive celebrity men are attracted to those type of women when the vast majority of men are ignored even though they don't require a woman to look like a Kim Kardashian type

for men it's different. it's always been the same masculine archetype as its been for millions of years. no one's gonna convince me that skinny femboys in dresses and dad bods are more attractive than 6 pack abs

The kicker? Those are competitive aspects, too. All the nonsensical chest-thumping crap you see men struggling against each other for status? What you're experiencing is the female version.

TikTok isn't a life-sustaining medical device; if it's hurting you, walk away from it.

I am pretty on Tik Tok and I'm pretty IRL so I don't know how it would affect your perception about your own looks.

It's all about WHERE YOU, take a look. You find what you look for. And there is a world of people out there with all sorts of things going on. Also since this is internt then no one of forcing you to see things you don't like seeing. You can block people, you can like and comment on things you do like and leave things you don't like alone. The algorithm give you more of the things you pay attention to, like and comment on.
