I told her I recycled plastics and she responded with a disappointing sounding oh ok. The tone between her asking and her response was noticeable

Saying you recycle plastics brings an initial picture like you stand on conveyer belt and pull out all the non plastics from the belt and more importantly, to her she doesn't see the $$$ which is the hidden meaning behind why they ask what do you do in the first place. I mean common, do you think she really cares what you actually do, or more so whether it translates to $$$.

Now if you looking for ONS, you say something that gives her the idea you make bank. So let's say you a manager at a recycle company, maybe say instead, I'm an executive at a local company. Leave it vague but executive equals $$$.

If you interested in possiblly dating then go somewhere in the middle. Don't lead with money cause she'll see you as a mark. But also you don't want to say, you a peon either and make her think you starting at bottom and unlikely going to move up in the ladder

Look at garbage men for example, they actually make decent money. But the assumption is by many that it's remedial, dirty, and low paying work. So you got think about how to answer this question better cause its guaranteed to come up

I usually just say I'm a zombie hunter. If she insists that's not a real job I remind her that she's probably not seen any zombies lately. I'll let her know I make "above the national average" because that's important when considering me as a potential investment of her time, but she doesn't need to know on date one what I do beyond that or precisely how much I make.

Ok so there's so much wrong in your comment here.
First off, I don't think the zombie bit will make most girls even give you a smile. I would think they just going to give you a confused look. But uh that's your least important issue to address.

Second, "don't tell her how much you make, or give her clues by referencing the national average". You make her think for herself by the answer you provide when she asks, what do you do? What are your hobbies? Etc. All of these are asked so they can try and gauge how much you make.

The biggest issue here though is that you see her as the one interviewing you for the job. You need to go jn there, show confidence, and make her feel like she applying for the job.

You need to ask the questions. When you do, it forces her to answer and it gives her a chance to talk about herself and everyone loves themselves. If you sit with them for an hour and she was talking about herself the majority of the time, it will be in her mind an amazing conversation. Show interest in what she says, don't judge. when they say something they did, you ask why they did it that way, they respond, and then you give them a compliment for doing it that way.

Just show interest in them talking. Let them give you all the info you need so you can qualify her as to whether she is a right fit and worthy of any more of your time later.

And and throw in a wrench or two at some point where she brings up something she does or likes, and you respond with disagreement.

I have a pretty high conversion rate... don't underestimate the zombie thing ;) As far as "what I do"... I don't ever tell her that. My own blood doesn't know what I do. The WHAT isn't important as long as it's clear I'm not about to get one of the houses foreclosed upon.
