Is this a new fashion trend or something else?

I went shopping this morning and stopped around midday at a small grocery store. One of the shoppers in the store was a young girl, perhaps 27-30 years old, and she was wearing a full length half slip (no skirt or dress) with a coordinated top. The slip was semi-transparent and her panties were clearly visible, especially when she bent over to get something from a bottom shelf. She seemed to be oblivious to the attention she was getting. I'm not sure if this is a new fashion statement, maybe she was drunk or mentally ill, or maybe just desperate for attention. I've never seen anyone dressed that way in public before.

Right now there is a whole movement in the center of world fashion, it was even displayed at the current Paris main fashion cat walks. The movement is called, Free the Nipple, and all the biggest names, celebrity and supermodels are behind it. See the latest Harper's Bazar outfits too or the latest catwalk outfits. Basically it's that showing nipples is no longer a taboo and mainly see through outfits are the latest vogue. As for me, as I often say, I belong to the adam and eve that never bit the apple. I think nudity is much a do about nothing. I mean everybody knows exactly how everyone looks nude, so why all this fuss. I mean as long as it is done aesthetically, tastefully and from an art perspective it's fine. There is a big difference between beauty and smut. That said I've been to the nude beaches in and around NYC and I must tell you, for half the people I felt like running up to them and telling them, " PLEASE, I BEG OF YOU, PLEASE PUT ON YOUR CLOTHES, I'LL GIVE YOU A MONTHS WAGES. I mean they were so out of shape and ugly it was unbearable. However, if you can handle it why not. Also on another note, wearing undergarments as clothes and even undies and bar straps popping out looks very untidy and stupid and not at all sexy to me.

I think it's a fashion statement, and I neither am in favor of it, nor do I disapprove.

It's her business.

That outfit would be perfectly legal in my very conservative community, so who's to say a woman can't wear something like that if she wants to. I think that it's just a new take on fashion.

I once witnessed a sizzling hot mom wearing a micro-bikini and high heels enter an elementary school office to pick up her kid midday, with it taking a few minutes, of course, to have said kid brought out of class. She was as nonchalant as she could be the entire time. I just happened to be there. My continued presence was also required in the office. I didn't mind one bit.

A couple years ago, my wife and I stopped at a frozen yogurt place near a lake. There were four young people who looked in their teens or early 20s. One girl was wearing a beach top that only covered the top of her ass. She must have been wearing a thong because it looked like her plump, womanly ass was bare naked. I wasn't offended. I was charmed. 😁

About a year ago I saw the same thing in the French Quarter in New Orleans. But it was clear to me the woman WAS drunk and was a prostitute. She was in a full slip and was clearly naked underneath. It was broad daylight. I also figured it was advertisement.

Maybe it's a prostitute fashion that is now de rigueur. Just like the men's pants below their asses came from prison male prostitutes, and is a fashion thing among certain groups.

I live next to a lakeside town, you'd be surprised by the number of young and not-so-young women who wear this kind of clothing.

Equally popular are sundresses that leave the side completely exposed, so they look nude on the side.

I'm not very fazed by those, but I find the dresses with the so-called "ass windows" to be ridiculous.

I keep seeing girls in lingerie tops or just basic braletts out in public and to say anything otherwise eg I think one should be covered more than that, means I'm just being a pervert or racist os I just don't bother no more. It's all for fashion until someone gets hurt.

Sheer fabric is a current fashion trend. She probably was aware of what you could/couldn't see and just didn't care. When I wear sheer it's never for attention, it's just because I like the aesthetic and don't care how people react. (I guess it could just be a lighting accident though.)

Sometimes mirrors dont exactly give the same lighting in a store. Like i wore a shirt to school but ig my bra could be faintly seen even tho i check in the mirror before i leave.
I like those old fashions slips bc they r like a silky skirt. My mom gave me hers and wondered if i could go out in public with it, but it is basically undergarments so never went out in it.

A lot of girls / women are oblivious to the fact their clothing is see through. I remember the days when people wore black leggins. None of them seem to realise that in the sun you could see their underwear and even see the exact type they were wearing and the pattern.

I not sure a girl should wear something that revealing I mean I like seeing a girl in a skirt but it can’t be see through and some girl don’t wear panties while wearing a skirt or dress. I'm sure the motivation to wear this ensemble varies by the wearer. For many, they will simply be copying someone who claims to be a fashion leader, regardless of the appropriateness of the outfit to the situation.
