Personally I think that assuming everything the opposite sex says on the assumption that they're lying is pretty prejudiced and jaded. So I generally don't think that most people walk around life thinking that way.

If you don't know it's happening, is it really a lie? If I say I'm going to the grocery store, but my plans change and I end up not going, did I lie? I don't think so. Lack of communication or mutual understanding, while a problem, does not equate to lying.
