It is the alternative for your bra size. For example, I buy 38A (I guess 85B in EUR sizes) instead of 34C (must be 75D??) because 34C is so hard to find. The problem is it does not work! I can't feel comfy in 38A. What do you do? How is the situation with you? Do the crossed sizes work?
I think you're talking about sister sizes? So here's the thing about sister sizes. It's not a pick and mix. A lot of people think they are a bunch of sizes that will fit you, this is not the case. Sister sizes are useful when for example you're buying a bra that runs tight in the band. You can sister size up, so for example from 38A to 40AA. Or if it runs loose in the band you could sister size down from 38A to 36B. If you're a 34C, 38A will not be a good fit. 34B might be sometimes. But not 34C. Having said that - you mightn't be a 34C, as it's one of the most common sizes that people are incorrectly fitted in. I recommend the abrathatfits calculator - it takes 6 measurements into account which is more accurate than the standard two measurements people use and it is trustworthy because it's not selling you anything or trying to profit.

I don’t usually wear a bra, because they feel uncomfortable to me.
When I got measured I sometimes measured 30D or 32C, which are twin sizes of 28E and all 3 of them are smaller size which I am very happy about.
My girlfriend needs to be measured correctly. I think its more of breast themselves. She might have to get custom made one (s). Either no support in the cup or they fall out of cups. Straps don't do any good. They always falling. She's constantly adjusting. If she tightens them they're uncomfortable.
Need to find a place. Suggestions?
Where are you at that you can't find 34C? Even walmart carries those here.

I'm 30H in UK sizing and struggle to find my size in stores as well, which is why I mostly buy them online. My favorite places are Playful Promises and Brastop. Am pretty sure both have 34C bras.
It’s your cup size but also the width of your back. Were you measured? Maybe you’ll find something that fits better. If you go into like nordstroms near you I think they still help women measure or even a local seamstress.
34C (34B in US sizes) is one of the most common and easiest sizes to find here in the UK.
Aren’t you going down two cup sizes though? I’ve only ever heard of 1 cup diff - would 34C be equivalent of 36B? How’d you decide on 38A?
I think the only way to ever have a bra fit perfectly is to have it made for you. I can’t speak for anyone else, but one is slightly bigger than the other. So even finding them in “my size” (after being measured), isn’t an exact fit.
I don't wear bras anymore but when I did I stuck to my size that was measured
I was measured and I was told that I can either wear a 34DD or 36D. Honestly neither fit me perfectly
I've gained and lost a load of weight, over the years. I've always stuffed to find bras that don't gape, have the right padding etc. I've always meant to get properly measured but have never done.
Why is 34C hard to find? I'm 34c and I've never had a problem finding my size in stores
@softlyautumnal and @CubsterShura can help you here. I hope they don't mind me bringing them in.
I see lots of women just not wearing bras these days, especially women on here
Get a properly fitting bra. Get measured.
Did not know this existed. Where?
I don’t wear a bra
In Canada its called sister size. I wear a 36D.

Yeah ladies does it work? We all want to know.
I think it depends on the brand and style.
