Her motive for saying that would be? I know every girl is different, but In a general sense, what do you think her motive for that would be?

If it's a friend, encouragement, if it's a girl that is a colleague, maybe trying to confess her feelings or something

Just being nice/honest

Maybe wanting me to say that she is as well

May be attracted to me, and is using what I said, as a reason to compliment me

That just sounds like a compliment to me. I don't think there would be any sort of motive behind it probably 99% of the time. I wouldn't overthink what it meant. Who is the "girl" anyhow? A coworker of friend or what? That would provide some context to the situation. I wouldn't take it to mean that she likes someone or has a thing for a guy. Just a nice compliment that she thinks someone is smart. Nothing more.
