We both are in the same college. I first saw this girl in a canteen where I used to dine normally. She also dines there. Some random day, she looked at me and was smiling. I thought it has nothing to do with me. I left that. Then many a times, I used to see her looking at me in the same place. At times, when she would leave and I would enter the canteen, she used to smirk at me. Then, this started happening at the outside places too. Then, because of some other reasons, I stopped dining there.

I'd tell you, if someone's merely being polite they're not going to go out of their own way to do the smirking.

See if she wants to "prove herself" to you, to please you, beyond just smirking. Do an "act of kindness" to her, and see if she reciprocates. ﾠ
