How common is it to lose a friendship over a man?

I recently lost my best friend, Nina, because of her feelings for a man, an old friend of hers that she’s had for years, Ian, who’s interested in me. I’m not interested in him. She’s very interested in him because he’s very rich, very handsome (looks just like a young, bearded Barry Gibb from The Bee Gees); with a beautiful body and really outgoing. She’s decided that her lust for him which she thinks is love, is more valuable than our close friendship and her friendship with Alex, a man I don’t like, but I respect, who’s been as good a friend to her as I have; but Ian decided he doesn’t like. Is this normal for women in their thirties?

I’d say it’s more common w women. Men seem to have more of a loyalty once they become really good friends. Women can easily turn their backs on their mom, their dad, etc. For men it’s not as easy. You see it a lot w girls who call their boyfriend a mama’s boy. She’s willing to tell off her mom, her dad etc to defend her man whether he’s right or wrong. A lot of times men not so much. There are occasions where two friends will fight over a girl, but I think so that’s more a women especially after reading a lot of these post by women.

Last February, we were out with my friend, he really liked that one guy and she was telling me “Omg, look, there’s such a hot guy over there.”

I didn’t look, cause I wasn’t interested.

That evening that hot guy came to me and later on asked me out.

We dated briefly, before I figured out that he was looking for casual relationship.

My friend didn’t mind the fact that I dated the guy she initially liked.

There was this time, when her exes asked me out, I didn’t date them though… Cause, well, girl code.

You don’t date your friends’ men, whether ex or not.

I did that in my early teens, when I was a bit stupid, a guy left my cousin because of me, when we were 13, I liked him too but I had a fear of relationships so he lost out on both, my cousin and me.

Thankfully, my cousin didn’t mind. But looking back, it was a bad move from me… I am not proud of myself.
