Why would a girl try and get me to guess this?

We were having a conversation in class and somehow we were discussing birthdays. She asked when mine was, I told her and asked when hers was. She didn't tell me directly, and told me to guess instead with a smile on her face and made me keep guessing every number in the month. Why would she do this? Does it mean anything or is it just playful?

Sounds to me she was trying to flirt or be playful as you put it. I see that you are under 18 years old. I am guessing the girl is also. That makes a lot of sense because when I was in my teens I did the awkward flirting stuff and this sounds exactly like that. I can't think of another reason why she would do that. Plus you mention she was smiling which to me says it was being playful. I wouldn't read too much into a one off interaction but she probably has a thing for you. If you like her then reciprocate and flirt back.

Yeah I'm 17, nearly 18 - she is too (as we now know each other's birthdays..). About reading into the one-off interactions I think I fall into that trap sometimes so I try and seek clarity from others on their opinion. There are other signs like some physical contact / brushing up me when we're sat beside each other and not moving away, teasing, easy conversation, convos about stuff outside of class etc - but then I always have to ground myself as we don't talk outside of class and sometimes she'll make accidental physical touch and pull away and apologise which makes me question it too. So yeah you're right about not reading too much into things

It does sound like she is flirty. All the things you just mentioned are pretty clear signs she is trying to get your attention or flirt. That is my take on it with the extra info you give.
