Do you have a bad memory?

I don’t have a bad memory, but because I am always lost in my thoughts, occasionally I forget less important things and then I wonder, if I really said that.

I go with a hunch, if that is something I WOULD say, then it means I said it.

IF that’s something against my morality to say it, then I wouldn’t say it.

I used to have the sharpest memory of conversations when I was younger (although always absent-minded about things like where I parked my car), amazing people by accurately recalling things they said years ago. "Wow, I can't believe you remembered that! That's exactly what I said, verbatim!"

But I think the reason I had such a sharp memory is that I was constantly in a rollercoaster-like state of emotions. When we have very strong emotions towards something, we tend to burn it into memory. So I burnt a lot of things into memory that way, especially social encounters and conversations.

Now I find my memory slipping as I've mellowed out. Even those same past memories that I used to be able to recall on demand so vividly now seem to have faded away as I made peace with them.

So that's actually one downside to practicing Stoicism or Buddhism and achieving a greater sense of inner peace and mellowing out overall as a person. It becomes more difficult to remember past events since they don't impact us nearly as much emotionally. 😅

It's funny that I see this I suffer from an illness that like fucks with all that type of shit it's very wacky. Gotten yelled at a few times by like my boss or teacher at school for forgetting stuff even though I can't control it.

Now if you're talking about a bad memory from the past I think everybody does I remember some of the cringe ass shit I've done when I was younger lol

I’ve been called a scatter brain, ngl! It runs in my family. My mom is terrible! I called her last night with a “very important question” but forgot what it was two minutes into our conversation. I walk into a room and forget why I’m in it. Even when I have a shopping list, I forget half the stuff on it! Explain that one!

I'm not very mentally stable rn, possibly due to stress and going onto new antidepressants! Anyway, I'm really sensitive and everything I see just brings up bad memories currently.

I mean sometimes some stuff triggered me but now it's everything, it's exhausting 😴

Last year 2023/7 i did my IQ test and i get 147 point and in. 2022/6 i get 136 point
And i always forget a lot of things like pay bills or car insurance sometimes i forget meeting if he wasn't important

But if was something Important i don't forget about or in my job i don't forget any thing

No, it is pretty good, as I can remember things from as early on as one or two years old. It was useful in school for classes like history or anatomy, since I could wait till the day of the test to study in another class.

However, for things like where I left my phone or remembering to do something is kind of shit 😅. It really just has to do with how focused or interested I am in it.

I can remember things that happened in the 1980’s in detail. But recent stuff no. Just like today I couldn’t remember if I locked the car or not. I had to ask my 11 year old son with me if I armed it. I said I don’t remember hearing the beep beep of the horn. He said he did hear it and it was armed. I hate second and third guessing myself 😞

ii think i do, i mean like i forgot what i had for dinner 2 days ago for example. i also can't remember anyones birthdays, i forget my friends surnames, et cetera

I kind of wonder if there is such a thing as memory issues naturally occurring before the age of 70 or something but not as a birth defect or as a result of a concussive force to the head.

This could also be a symptom of someone who has been gaslighted a lot especially as a child and now you can't trust your own memories.
