Why are women allowed to pose in photos and not be called stuck up but if a man poses he would be laughed at?

As someone who has studied photography under professional photographers, this isn’t the case when you’re in the photography field. However, in society, it’s not the same. I think people usually laugh a little because of some of the poses men tend to choose are a bit cheesy/stereotypical, like the pose where they’re standing with their hands covering up their downstairs area and a straight face or the pose where they’re pretending to tie their shoe.

@genericname85 not always. I mean, how many people have you asked “hey, can you take a picture of me?” it’s not their job to tell you how to pose. Not all pictures are taken by photographers.

@genericname85 also, as a photographer, it’s usually best NOT to tell your models how to pose because in most causes, you want them to look and feel at ease instead of rigid and stiff.

typically people are not very experienced with posing. especially not men. like i am not a pro by any means. i'm an amateur hobby fotographer and i would understand it as my responsibility to make my model look great, meaning i should tell them when the pose they struck looks awkward and guide them towards a better pose.

if you were talking about selfis, yes of course men look awkward in these pictures, cause men typically don't take these a lot so they are less experiened with it.

@genericname85 of course I’d tell them if they look stiff and give them advice on how to pose if they asked for it, but again, it’s best not to have your models pose for most parts of photography. There are types of photography which do require posing, but most photography is best done without telling them how to pose. Some of the best photos are candid.
