Why does asking a women if she has any questions for him kill the conversation?

Because that sounds like an interview rather than just chatting n flirting with a girl. If anything anyone asking that (never heard it before) is delaying the inevitable as she is obviously not into him, otherwise the conversation would flow naturally.

@Dan_5001 lol dating is defintely not an interview, it’s just a fun, chilled out night out etc, you get to know each other. It takes far far longer to find out if you actually like the person, are compatible etc. I would walk if someone tried asking me questions like in an interview.

The conversation might have already been dead although I think it's not such a good idea to ask that in a two-way conversation because any questions that naturally arise would likely be asked as they arise.

It's not like asking students at the end of the lecture if they have any questions. In that case, the students aren't supposed to be asking questions the whole time so it's practical that the teacher asks at the end if they have any.

I’m a person that has difficulty keeping a conversation going in social situations. If someone asks me if I have any questions for them, it kills things for two reasons. First of all, it feels forced and makes things feel even more awkward. Second, it puts me on the spot where I know I’ll inevitably ask something really stupid and rather than embarrass myself by asking something stupid, I’ll just not ask anything.

The first point would tell me that you haven't thought about what you want to say to me in general & give me the op impression that you are not that interested. The second point however would tell me that you care & if you are laughing off the embarrassment even better.

So you wouldn't or couldn't ask him what his hobbies are? What does he do for work? What he's favourite thing to watch? Does he like animals? Does he prefer to go places or stay in? List goes on.
