It is acceptable, however it’s only acceptable if the guy can read the other person, read the room and everything that is going on.

By asking this it puts into doubt the above.

would you talk to a bunch of girls in a group, say 5 of them, if not why talk to one on her own.

there is also a big difference between talking to, having a conversation and hitting on them, of trying to steer the conversation to hitting on them.

It's 100% acceptable but I think men need to be more accepting of a rude or cold response. You approached them they don't have to be nice and a reaction if they are rude only makes things worse for both parties
