Are these red flags, or just indicative of a close friendship?

If a new friend flatters you a lot, gushes over the birthday gift you gave them, expresses love for you when they’ve only known you 6 months, is that unusual at all? My mum tells me it is. I’ve got a friend doing all of that and I’m wondering about their possible motives. They’re getting very attached very quickly. Is that odd at all? I tend to be a bit naive and gullible, but I found it a bit unusual, too.

Some women tend to show more love and appreciation and get really excited when you give them gifts. And some women are naturally very happy people. And I think six months is an okay time to show all of this especially if she’s a good person.



I don’t mean to judge you if you think six months is too soon for a friend to do this then why did you decide to give her a gift to soon in a friendship.


An advice: don’t think too much into this just enjoy this friendship and be happy you have someone who appreciates your effort

I don’t think any of that is really that serious for a friendship that’s been going on for 6 months. Sounds like your mother is inserting her opinion on how she feels about the friend vs the reality which is your friend just being appreciative of you being a good friend.

Hmm that does seem a bit unusual for just a new friendship. A few things that stand out as potential red flags:

- Gushing over gifts and flattering you excessively early on can be a tactic to win you over fast before you realize their real intentions.

- Professing love after only 6 months is super rushed. Most healthy relationships/friendships don't reach that stage for years.

- Getting overly attached very quickly usually means the person isn't respecting normal relationship boundaries and pacing.

- The intensity could be a way to manipulate and make you feel special/obligated to them before you really know them well.

Of course it's possible they're just very emotionally expressive. But combined with moving very fast, I'd be wary of codependency or ulterior motives like wanting something from you.

Definitely worth being cautious until you get to know their true character better. Don't feel pressured by the gushing. Watch how respectful they are of your needs/space as things progress slowly.

Trust your Mum's and your own intuition - neither are a good sign on their own necessarily, but combined raise some eyebrows. Just protect your heart sis!
